PEACE IN THE MIDST OF TRIALS

TEXT: MARK 4: 35-41

INTRODUCTION: In times of troubles or trials, the earnest desire of a man is peace and he would do anything to achieve it. Unfortunately, however, most people seek peace from wrong sources which later come back to haunt them. Some look up to men as a panacea to addressing their lack such as money, job, employment, health, etcetera. Others seek solace in alcoholism and unholy associations in their quest for peace.

God is the source of genuine peace. This is made available to us through our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ. He is our present help in times of troubles. He does not only provide the peace we need, He is also present with us in the midst of every storm, fire or flood directed at us by the enemy. He delivers us from them strengthening us in our inner man. All we need do to have the peace of God which passes all understanding is to look up to the hills from whence cometh our help.

In the midst of today’s global challenges believers need to leverage on the privilege they have in Christ Jesus.

In today’s study, our focus is on how we can live and manifest the peace of God which passes all understanding. May the Spirit of God that is abiding in us continue to be our help in Jesus name.

1) OUR SOURCE OF PEACE: Phil. 4:7; Rom. 1:7; Is. 9:6; Jn. 16:33; Jn. 14:27; Jn. 20:19-26; Eph. 2:14

God is our source of peace. This peace is made available to us through His Son. He is the Prince of peace. The Holy Spirit in us comforts us in our trials and tribulations.

2) EXPERIENCING AND MANIFESTING PEACE: Exo. 14:13-14; Is. 26:3; Ps. 37:37; Pro. 3:1-2; 2Pet1:2; Jer. 29:11;   Rm. 5:1-5; Hag. 2:9; Rm. 8:6; Gal. 5:22; Phil . 4:6-7; 1Tim. 2:1-2; Rm. 8:37

We must give no place to fear in our hearts. All we need do is to focus our minds on Him. He has promised us perfect peace if our mind is stayed on Him. Ensure that your ways please Him by depending on the Holy Spirit and led by Him. Don’t give room to impure thoughts and imaginations. Live a life of praise and worship.

3) THE RESULTANT EFFECTS OF PEACE: Mk. 14:55-65; Mk. 4:35; Ex. 14:13-14

Peace helps us in achieving the destiny God ordained for us. It provides the environment that assists us in fulfilling our vision. Our ability to perceive spiritual things is enhanced in the milieu of peace.

MEMORY VERSE: Isaiah 26: 3

Thou will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusted in thee.
